Bypass Capacitor Calculator
Posted by: Wes on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 12:00 AM
Basic knowledge

We all know that local bypassing of ICs is critical to proper operation. Typically designers add some combination of .01uf, .1uf, and 10uf caps and call it a day. Or maybe your company has a policy of always using a certain set of values for every part.

The purpose of this article is to show how to mathematically calculate the precise number and value of bypass capacitors your design needs.

Maximum Trace Length Calculator
Posted by: Wes on Friday, February 20, 2004 - 12:00 AM
Basic knowledge

This calculator finds the maximum PWB trace length possible before a termination is needed.

It will take as inputs the signal rise time and the PWB insulator dielectric constant. It will output the maximum trace length in mm before terminations are necessary.

Servo Basics, Part 1
Posted by: Wes on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 12:00 AM
Microcontroller interface to RC servo Common Radio Control hobby servos are easily controlled via a microprocessor. Articles in this thread will show you how.

Part 1. Servo Basics

An RC servo is simply a small DC motor with some gears, a potentiometer attached to the gears, and feedback control circuitry to make sure the motor is in the right position.
